UHDV uuurgh sexy numbers
just when you thought you’d got that stain out of the front of your jeans from the first time you saw 1080p video. . . . …. . . .. . .
from the land of big-eyed cartoons of dubious cultural impact comes UHDV .
. . .. .. . .. . … … … .. . .. . . . . . . .. . . . .
heres the low-down you crazy kids – yes, you two;
- 7,680 × 4,320 16 : 9 (HDTV = 1920 × 1080)
- 60 frames / second (standard PAL tv 25 fps)
- 194 gigabytes / minute uncompressed video … 2 hour movie = 23.28 terabytes
- with compression a 2 hour movie would be 360 gigglybits (blu-ray = 25gig | HD DVD = 15gig)
uuuurghh
….. .. . … .. . .. .. .. ….. . . . . .. . . . .. . .. .. .. … . . .. . .
what does this all mean ?
well to us, probably not much, this sorta technology won’t be seen for at least – ever ? who knows . if they can match print quality imagery (magazines : 300dpi) with moving image (currently 72dpi) then that would be interesting .
therefore doing the maths on UHDV @ 300dpi. . .. .. . . .. . .. . thats roughly a 29 inch telly with the quality and definition of a glossy magazine . yum .
in essence its gonna take a while for all the related technologies to play catch up – storage, display, camera, broadcasting. . . .. … .. . . before any sorta display like this will be available from the warehouse .
while the prospects are very interesting instead of cramming as many pixels into a big rectangle, anutha interesting prospect is in the development of more immersive technologies – technologies with depth, holographic imagery, tactile video, smelly-vision, poo-scope
